Based in Seoul, Dal:um consists of Ha Suyean on gayageum and Hwang Hyeyoung on geomungo. Together, they create balance and poetry in the pauses of the heavy, deep-felt, acoustic string instruments. Unlike the Helsingør Theater, which has been preserved in its original form since 1817, the duo challenges the musical limits of what Korea's most famous traditional instruments can do.
“Dal:um’s music comes from ‘emptiness’” say Hyeyoung. “We’ve been working to create a balance between the original sound of silk strings and the beauty of emptiness. It’s easy to get obsessed with filling blank spaces when one wants to express something, so we always try not to fill things in rashly. We are focusing on the beauty of the pure sounds and tones of the gayageum and geomungo in order to change ‘blankness’ into a space of anticipation.”
The duo has a beautiful minimalist setup that forms the scenography for the empty theater stage. Like the music, they create a simple balance between the characteristics of the arts and give eyes and ears space for immersion in the individual.

Behind Sylfide, an old mythical creature, is singer, songwriter and harpist Helene Tungelund. The songs have grown out of the homeliness of the Nordic folk tradition and simple modal tonal language and at the same time embrace the present with feminine strength and sensitivity.
The repertoire includes both newly written songs, old folk songs and interpretations of Nordic dance melodies with new Danish lyrics.
Sylfide approaches the Danish cultural heritage with curiosity and renewal and gives her take on how folk music, songwriting and elements of spherical indie pop can be united and inscribed in the Nordic music tradition.
